Meguro River – Enjoying Sakura
Late March ~ early April. That’s the period of time when most of the cherry trees around Japan bloom and makes the country look more beautiful and romantic than ever. In Tokyo are many the spots where to enjoy the Sakura, some of them are a good option during the day time – for its convenience to have Hanami, for example – and others are more enjoyable during the night time, because of the special illumination during the cherry blossom season. Also some of them are for free and others you need to pay, so the options are many and varied.
In any case, in this article I would like to recommend you to visit the Meguro River during Sakura. It’s in a very convenient location (close to Ebisu Station… actually, you can walk from there), completely for free, and it can be fully enjoyed either during the day time and the night time. Once there you just need to follow the river which is surrounded by big cherry trees and also by many food parades and local/small restaurants & coffee shops. The ride is beautiful enough to be enjoyed twice, one from one side of the river and the other from the contrary, when you’re going back to the station. Also, if you manage your time well you may be able to do the first walking during the day, and the coming back after the sunset, so you would be able to see the special illumination installed for the occasion.
Also, very close to the river and just before the elevated highway after Nakameguro Station, there is a small park which I would recommend you to visit as well. Is completely free and it has a small lake in it and different kinds of plants/tress to look at. The place is called Saigoyama Park.
